DESCRIPTION OF THE PROCESS

Dry Process (Calibrated)
The raisins that were carefully sun dried and selected for our process are received at the plant in bins. Bins are dumped into a conveyor belt. The dry process starts by eliminating the stems, with a specific machine. Through various vacuums, all lightweight material and undeveloped raisins are eliminated. Raisins are now calibrated into three sizes: small, medium and jumbo to be stored separately waiting for the finishing process. It is important to mention that capstems are not eliminated in this stage as these prevent raisins from becoming sugared.

Finishing Process
This process only starts when a product has been sold, and close to the date of shipment. Capstems are eliminated with vacuums, and then another set of vacuums eliminate any possible loose capstems. Raisins are washed with a shower of water and then proceed into a hot bath of water where the humidity is increased to the final humidity required. They pass through a sand, pebble, and mould eliminator. Excess water is later eliminated. Raisins are vacuumed again to eliminate any small particles or underdeveloped raisins. Now the raisins go through laser scan, and the hand picking selection belt. The raisins pass through a metal detector to eliminate any batch that could eventually contain metal. After this, the raisins are sprayed with mineral or vegetable oil to prevent them from sticking to one another, keeping moisture and giving the finished product a shiny appearance. Finally, they are packed into the boxes. The boxes are put on pallets that are checked by the lab before they are stored in the finished product warehouse.
